You did it again. You promised yourself you wouldn’t do this anymore, yet here you are. Sitting in your office trying to plan a all night lock in.
How are you going to keep them entertained for 12 hours without losing your mind, or breaking something in the church?
Then it hits you…
Dodgeball. Your kids absolutely love Dodgeball.
But you have a whole night to plan for and Dodgeball is just one game… Or is it?
Here are three extremely fun variations of Dodgeball that will keep your students entertained and occupied for hours.
- Protect the president
This is my favorite version of the game. Check out the video below for instructions, then I shared a few videos of my kids playing so you can see the hilarity that can ensue from the modification.

- Skatter ball
It’s everyone for your self dodgeball. The way the game starts is the winner of the previous round throws the ball up in the air and then it’s game on. If you get hit by the ball and it doesn’t hit anything before it hits you then you are out. If you catch the ball the player who threw it is out. Once you are out you sit where you were taken out. But you are still alive. Once you have to sit you cannot have your feet on the ground. You can be on your knees or on your butt. The game goes on until one person is left standing. They are the winner and get to serve the next round by throwing the ball up into the sky.
When the person is out they can still catch other players throws to get them out or they can protect other players and also throw the ball to get other people out.
- Barrier Dodgeball – In this variation barriers are set out for players to be able to hide behind. I have used things like gym mats propped up on their sides, large cones, tables laid on their sides, chairs and refrigerator boxes. If you find that players are just hanging out behind a barrier then let them know they have to change barriers on the sound of the whistle. This gets them up and moving. Using large cones is good too since campers are still a bit exposed when they try to hide behind them.
